A Special Needs Child Tacking Care of other people

You will never know the love and care that a special needs child can show until you break stigmatization barriers between you and that child and actually show respect to the child.

Here in Cameroon, especially in rural areas like the one we are located in, it is usually very dusty because the roads are ground roads.  I regularly come to work using my bike. When I pass through the dusty roads, I reach the Crystal Foundation Rehab center with dust on my cloths. Each time I arrive, I will have to wipe off the dust from my cloths before I can begin my work.

Strangely and to my amazement, Ryan, a 7 year old child with Down Syndrome at Crystal Foundation’s rehab center, noticed the dust, and each time I arrive, he will run to me, welcome me and then begin to wipe the dust off my cloths. At first, I thought he was only being in a jovial mode on the first day he did this, but he continues to do this regularly and keeps welcoming me even now that it is the rainy season and there is no dust.
I feel so touched by this child. I wish society could see just how much love he has to offer. Here am I, believing that the challenges these children pass through in society are sufficient enough to keep them thinking only about themselves, but he tries to take care of me every day, and he is also very welcoming to the other Crystal Foundation staff and friendly to his peers.
I wish that the world would see the beauty that lies in the hearts of these children with special needs!!
