Club Activities at the Crystal Foundation rehab Center Serving as a Strong Tool for Social Inclusion

Club activities have proven to be a powerful tool for the social integration of the children at the Crystal Foundation rehab center in Cameroon into society. The children at the center have been divided into different clubs where they are expected to actively take part in the activities of the clubs. There is the traditional dance club, the singing club and the drama club.

Guided by their careers, all the children are encouraged to take part in the activities of the clubs. The children are all given active roles that are vital to the success of the activities of the clubs. Though it is often difficult to get some of the children to participate, the careers make the children to understand that if they do not participate their club would be a failure. This argument is further strengthened by the competition coming from the other clubs.  Besides no child is expected to perform at a perfect level, neither are they booed by anyone. The children are gradually building their skills in social activities where they had already been counted out by society.

Some of the children at the center have already come out of their shells of isolation while others are taking more time, but moving towards a positive path. After all, the aim of the rehab center is to give these children what they couldn’t take from society on their own and to reintegrate them into the same societies where they formally belonged; not as spectators, but as active participants where they can count their successes, failures and mistakes like every other human being and work on them or improvise.
